Germania
Beanie Baby & Buddy Explained
By Jacqueline Greenwood,
May 15, 2000
On
May 4th, the Germania Buddy arrived in Germany
without ever receiving an announcement of its introduction
on the Ty website. However, Mary Beth's Bean Bag World
reported on February 5th that Ty retailers who attended
the Nuremberg Toy Faire were able to order six Germania
Beanie Buddies. So it was not a total surprise to collectors.
The Germania Beanie Buddy has a 4th
generation swing tag which says:
Germania™
Germania the Beanie Baby
was the first Beanie Baby to have its poem
in a language other than English!
The first eBay auction for the Germania
Buddy in-hand to close on eBay included the Germania
Beanie Baby and sold for $242.50 on May 7th. It
was a three-day auction that attracted 4 bids. The Beanies
had not been authenticated but the seller provided a
100% guarantee. The seller, known as "brd63"
on eBay, had a flawless feedback rating with 17 positive
remarks. The last sale price on MetaExchange
for just the Germania Beanie Buddy was:
Germania the Beanie Baby:
Germania the Beanie Baby was issued on January 1,
1999 and retired on December 23, 1999. Its birthday
is October 3, 1990. Only Ty retailers in Germany
could order this Beanie. The English translation
of the poem is:
Germania™
Unity and Justice and Freedom
Is the song of German Unity
All good little girls and boys
Should love this little German bear.
The Three Versions
of Germania the Beanie Baby Explained:
Germania was produced with a 5th generation swing tag
however there are three different versions of this bear
based on differences in hand tags and tush tags.
Here is a complete explanation of the three different
versions of the Germania Beanie Baby along with the
last sale price from MetaExchange.
The first version
of Germania has 5 spelling mistakes and the back of
the hangtag is in English.
The five spelling errors
are:
Geburtsag - correct: Geburtstag
un - correct: und
Einheislied - correct: Einheitslied
das liebste - correct: der Liebste
Gasport - correct: Gosport.
The second version
of Germania has all of the misspellings corrected
and the back of the hangtag is in German with a double
loop tush tag.
The third version
of Germania is identical to the second-generation Germania
except the tush tag is the single piece design.
The Flagless
Germania
It is interesting to note that two flagless Germania
Beanie Babies sold in April for over $1,100 a piece.
One auction was on eBay and another was on a German
auction site called, WhatamIbid.com. |
